Clay artist, Andy Snyder will be with us for the evening demonstrating, "Throwing and Rolling, the Art of Addition and Subtraction." Andy will be creating decorative and functional clayware that evolves through the combination of wheel throwing and hand building. Each piece comes to life with remarkable texture...some of which is created by the removal of clay from the vessel while additional slabs and ribbons are added. Each vase, bowl and pot is uniquely beautiful unto itself. An assortment of finished pieces will be for sale in the gallery.

2010-Mar-12: The Brick Box at the Paramount

RALPH NIMTZ
Wooden Canoes

Opening Reception, Friday March 12, 5-8pm

The Brick Box at the Paramount is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibit of restored wooden canoes by Ralph Nimtz. Growing up on a small lake in southwestern Michigan, Nimtz learned the art and meditation of restoration through his father's guidance. Now living in Wallingford, Nimtz has a sizable collection of these elegant crafts, some of which will be on display from March 12 through April 6.

Seen from their beauty, these canoes present as graceful lines and the warm glow of wood. Seen from their function, they present transportation and a tool for recreation and relaxation. Seen from their integrity, they are of natural materials fashioned with simple tools. Additionally, in Nimtz's process, there is great satisfaction in uncovering the history of each particular craft and in coming to understand the individual builder's unique design and craftsmanship. And always, the quiet lake beckons.

The opening reception coincides with the March 12 Art Hop from 5:00 until 8:00pm. The Brick Box is open 11am - 6pm Thursday - Friday, and Saturday 10am - 2pm, and during Paramount Theater performances. For further information, please call Beth Miller at 235-2734 or Wendy Fannin at 235-2412.
